As real estate professionals, there are many times when an encounter can present itself that is scary and threatening. You may have been in one of these situations. You are holding an open house and that perspective buyer is staring at more than the beautiful finishes in the kitchen. You are the only one around. To combat this, Brazen Sotheby’s International Realty took matters into our own hands. We called upon Joann Factor of Strategic Living to hold a self-defense workshop at our Eastside location for the women of Brazen Sotheby’s Realty to learn about Strategic Living’s personal safety program.
Our ladies learned self-defense skills that are not only for those few times in your life in which you have a scary encounter. They learned that self-defense should be an integral part of your living strategy no matter the scenario. Whether or not you ever face an attacker, the benefits of learning self-defense extend into your daily life. Not only did our ladies learn some preventative and effective physical skills to disable an attacker, but they also learned vocal responses and ways to carry themselves to gain confidence and energy. “I learned the four points of contact which are the eyes, throat, groin, and knee,” stated office administrator Karene Stackman.
Most of all, Joann taught the ladies how to recognize when someone is planning an assault and what cues to pick up on when in a compromising scenario. “She really taught us to be aware of our surroundings at all times and what signs to look for in potential attackers,” explained broker Kathy Madsen. “Sometimes there aren’t physical signs but more spatial and vocal. Also, almost 90% of the time you know your attacker and it’s not a stranger,” continued Madsen. Overall, this training was very empowering for our brokers and could be the difference when facing a scary encounter. Simply put, don’t mess with our lady brokers.
